This 6 month (+/-) old female was found on February 18th on Twin Bridge Road and picked up by Heather Dowland of the the Town of Holland. On February 25th she was at large again at the intersection of Nelson & Herrick Roads in Derby and was impounded with a purple collar - she had no license or rabies tags and no owner identification.

Found at: Foxwood Lane, Derby

Trixie was reported at large in the Town of Derby and impeding traffic on a public thoroughfare on two occasions during the week of 2/17/08. She tends to hide in the road ditch or behind the fence and then charge passing vehicles. Passing motorists are asked to exercise caution while the owner addresses the problem.

Charlie was picked up by Boby & Holly Richardson on their way home when they found him running up the road with another little black dog in tow ("Yogi Chapdelaine). He was still not wearing a collar or tags.

Found at: McDonalds and Price Chopper

Jake is a regular in the McDonald's and Price Chopper parking lots where he lies down and begs for treats among the parked cars. The problem is that Jake isn't quite as savvy about cars as he is about the treats that come from them. If you attempt to approach, he backs off and lays down again. Jake is currently unlicensed and unvaccinated because he has thus far avoided capture and his family can't seem to keep him at home. If you see Jake - please don't feed him. One day a treat may cost him his life.

Found at: Snow bank near Desrochers Excavating

This slightly chubby (approximately 6 year old male) was found almost buried in a snow bank near Desrochers Excavating. He was hit by a car in the early morning hours of February 11th and it was unclear whether he had spinal damage or a broken leg. The Town of Derby agreed to pay to have his condition assessed and to make him more comfortable while we searched for his family. Derby Pond Animal Hospital agreed to dip into their Good Samaritan Fund. Contributions poured in from Joan Huguenon, Chris Grenier, and Carl & Susan Taylor. Thanks to their generosity, he got the care he needed until we found his family. Unfortunately, Jonah died of natural causes on Sunday, February 17th.

Noah escaped from his home on the Upper Quarry Road. He was reportedly seen on the Beebe Road. He is thin, with a Greyhound chest and skinny hips, but his ears stand up. He weighs approximately 40 lbs. and is shy. He is wearing a yellow collar with Frontier Animal Shelter Tags and his family is looking for him. Wishbone is AWOL again (his second foray into Derby since moving to the NEK in August of this year). He slipped out of his collar and the front door, so he has no tags. You can't miss him because he's freshly groomed and very friendly. The last time he got loose, he was caught heading south on VT Rte 105 toward Derby Center before being picked up by a good Samaritan. This time, he ended up at the Derby Motel.

Wellington went missing on January 6th, 2008. He is neutered and has a docked tail and weighs in around 110 pounds. His family is actively searching for him and a reward has been offered. Wellington was found on January 14th, caught in a coyote trap. His vet thinks his leg will heal - his family is ready to love a three-legged dog just as much as they loved him with all four legs on the ground. Their persistance paid off - and probably saved his life!

Nikita is a 4-6 month old Rottweiler puppy who was found on the back roads of Derby (corner of Briar Patch and Pine Hill Roads) by a good Samaritan who picked her up and brought her in. She spent 10 days at the Municipal Pound hoping that her owner would find her and has now been transferred to Frontier Animal Society in Orleans.

9/15/07 These two chocolate male (intact) labs were found in the vicinity of Bates Hill Road without collars, rabies tags or valid license tags. One of the dogs has a problem with his eyes (the mucous membranes are inflamed and swollen). They are very friendly, in good flesh and condition. Rabies status unknown. Complainant reported that a man with NY plates was driving down Bates Hill last week looking for his two lost labs. These dogs could be his.

Found at: Baxter Park in Derby Line.

This male was reported loose in Derby Line, in the vicinity of Baxter Park . He was wearing a choke chain collar and a red, yellow, and black/navy Lupine collar. A lime green leash was attached to his collar suggesting that he either jumped out of a vehicle, or pulled away from his owner. He has no tags but is a nice dog who crated easily and was happy to go for a ride to the pound.

Picked up by a good Samaritan - he stayed with her family (and their dog and cat) for two weeks. He is wearing a blue web collar with no rabies or license tags and is currently housed at the municipal pound.This neutered male appears to be about 2 years old - lots of energy. He knows his name, and also how to sit and wait for a door to be opened.

This dog was running loose along Vt. Route 105, when he was picked up by Mr. Richard Whitcomb who first brought him to Derby Pond Animal Hospital, and then called Animal Control. He appears to have been recently clipped, and it looks as though he may have slipped his collar – when taken to the Municipal Pound, he had no collar or tags.
